why why why do the cichilids need an air stone i turn mine off to feed my fish but i forgot to plug it back in last night so today i have about 4 dead yellow labs and 1other chiclid dead in my tank now :( absolutly gutted tbh

but why does this happen just because of not having an airstone??

your water temp must be way up there or something, if you use a HOB filter lower your water level some to create airation.

If the airstone is your main sorce of surface disruption then your fish died from oxygen deprevation. If the air stone is not the primary source of surface disruption the lack of the airstone had nothing to do with the deaths!

nothing to do with the airstone, i havent got one i own loads of cichlids and dont have any deaths especially due to not having sirstone, something else caused there death

why did only 5 die, 4 yellow labs and 1other cichlid but the others survive its a recent water change so the ammonia will not be too high temps are a constant 80 and that never changes

it must have been the lack of airstone elsewise the surface is like glass so that must be the reason,

anyway ill always remember in future to turn the air on

shame it was my biggest ones also

I use a powerhead with the air pipe, works great and they love swimming against the current.

I'm running dual biowheels in my 29g... I tried an airstone back when I just had one filter.. the fish hated it, really stressed them out. I removed the bubbles, and they went back to normal.

What type of filtration are you using? It makes no sense that they died because of the lack of an airstone.
