I run another forum that I don't discuss here because of the MFK TOS.
Right now we have no "like" system enabled. People have mentioned this. A lot.
It is possible to have likes, and dislikes as well, counted for the members.
I don't have a clue how this would affect people, but I think it might start fights, frequently.
My reasoning is that now people must take some effort to register disagreement. They must write something, or if really motivated, post one of those offensive smilies.
IMO, a "dislike" button would make it too easy to shoot things down. There would be knee-jerk reactions. Feelings would be fractured.
Others have mentioned that the fractured members would have been so eventually, in any event. I think that's a bit callous. But they also say that this would serve to alert members about trolls. Evidently it's too hard to report trolls? You do have to click a couple buttons and type a minimal message.
I'm inclined to let them have at it. I don't have any financial stake worth mentioning, so if it devolves into a big mess, it's not the apocalypse.
