I run another forum that I don't discuss here because of the MFK TOS.

Right now we have no "like" system enabled. People have mentioned this. A lot.

It is possible to have likes, and dislikes as well, counted for the members.
I don't have a clue how this would affect people, but I think it might start fights, frequently.

My reasoning is that now people must take some effort to register disagreement. They must write something, or if really motivated, post one of those offensive smilies.

IMO, a "dislike" button would make it too easy to shoot things down. There would be knee-jerk reactions. Feelings would be fractured.

Others have mentioned that the fractured members would have been so eventually, in any event. I think that's a bit callous. But they also say that this would serve to alert members about trolls. Evidently it's too hard to report trolls? You do have to click a couple buttons and type a minimal message.

I'm inclined to let them have at it. I don't have any financial stake worth mentioning, so if it devolves into a big mess, it's not the apocalypse.

But once that genie is out of the bottle . . .

Are you referencing implementing it on your forum, or trying to get it nixxed on MFK?

I'm not entirely sure which you're asking about, but I'll give my opinion if you want it either way

Not here Chicx.

It's about another one I run for certain sports.

The like feature was very much requested here as well. When implemented, Members immediately started asking for things other than a thumbs up. We didn't give them that until the software update this May.

The overall result was that our Members didn't really seem to change their posting habits. The meta is that they're using the reactions feature to signal agreement or disagreement with individual posts in a thread, while still putting their $0.02 in via a reply.

The main thing driving the lack of activity here was the server crash in 2015 and a loss of people to Facebook. By implementing Facebook style features and launching a solid social media campaign, it actually helped us grow.

You're very welcome!

I actually bestowed this in myself believe it or not lol. HotK just got old for me

I personally like the like only choice. I can click what I like esp with pics/vids of folks fish. some times I click like for statements or advice I agree with. If I do not agree I would not click dislike but explane what I did not like or what I felt needed correction.

I don't have a good feeling about this system. Here's why:

On some other forums, where the "like" thing is in place, sometimes a person will start liking things I post. Right off I feel obligated to like them back. Doing this encourages them to like more and more. After a time they are liking everything I post.

If I'm not doing the same thing, feelings eventually get hurt.

Meanwhile, other people see this inflation of "likes" and it looks like some mutual admiration society to them.

And there goes the neighborhood . . .

On the skating forum (now closed) we had one member who simply liked things constantly, because you could not continually like the same persons. The software would not allow it.

I don't have that option.

No need to feel obligated for likes. I leave reactions on things I like, find funny or are plain awesome. Never do I feel obligated to like someones post because they like mine. Keep it simple for yourself
