Is there anything to be done? It has been about 12 hours since he gobbled it up.I noticed it lying in the sand as I was feeding algae discs but then all the fish swarmed the algae disc and when they stopped the suction cup was gone.I'm not 100% sure that's what happened but a good 80-90% sure.

Since then the fosochromis has not been acting right. He doesn't swim around much, and basically sits in one spot trying over and over to puke from the looks of it. It looks to me like someone dry heaving...he isn't having any success.

He is about 10-11" and the suction cup was maybe a little smaller than a bottle cap. I netted him out to try to see if I could "massage it up and out the mouth like some on here have done in the past but no luck, I cant feel it and looking down his mouth I cant see it either.

In fact netting him out only seems to have made matters worse as now he is breathing pretty hard and now has clamped fins.

I am so depressed this was a B-Day present and I have only had him for like two weeks.:(

Any tips would be appreciated.

From what I can find, some people have had success making an epsom salt solution and using a turkey baster to get it down the fishes throat.

Anybody else have input on this method and would it be better than just trying to wait it out?

also how do you make an epsom salt solution for said prupose (like salt to water ratio)?

No tips or suggestions at all?

Okay new question. If I were to treat the whole tank with epsom salt what ratio would I use? I have looked around and I see quotes of 1 teaspoon per gallon, 0.25 tablespoons per gallon, one tablespoon per gallon and one quote of one tablespoon per 10 gallons.

Also how does epsom salt stack up with aquariums salt? I already have the tank salted with aquarium salt at 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons. Is it safe to fully treat the tank with epsom salt and aquarium salt at the same time?

What makes you think epsom salt solutions would help get rid of the suction cup?

How do you know it was a suction cup?

And can you post pics so we can see what the situation is...

epsom salt can be used as a laxative at 1 to 2 tablespoons per 10 gal but this wont help you because i doubt the fish can pass it im not sure how to make a fish throw up you might be screwed

sorry to hear that. but i though fish would be smart not to eat that.. cause it hard and i dont dink they would eat it.. maybe he was hungry enought he thought it was food.. cause i know my fish would spit it back out when it not food.. weird to hear that.. but GL

yeah thers really not much u can do about that incept wait it out and hope for the best

Hopefully it'll throw it back up...my big sliver aro pulled my digi-thermometer into the tank by the probe and swallowed it...came back up a week later.

this is what made me think epsom salt might work: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239276&highlight=swallowed+rubberband

As for those asking how I know he swallowed it or how I know it was a suction cup I don't think you really read my OP.

1)I dropped algae wafers into the tank

2)I saw a suction cup on the bottom about the same size as an algae wafer

3)the algae wafers landed right next to the suction cup

4) the fish swarmed the algae discs

5) the dust settled and the suction cup was gone.I dont have any deco it could have gotten under nor behind.

6) The fossochromis started acting kind mopey or depressed and then not long after started acting like it was dry heaving or in other words unsuccessfully trying to puke.It has been dong so for almost 48 hours now.

It is one of maybe 3 fish large enough to have swallowed it and the other two are fine.
