The rubber band didn't "pass", he took the fish out and squirt a heavy epsom salt solution down the throat and it made the fish puke up all its stomach contents.
As far as that goes yeah it might not work for a suction cup.
I havnt decided if I want to try that yet, he really really hates getting netted (far worse than your average fish) and it causes him a lot of stress.
Right now he isn't eating and he is breathing just a little bit hard but he cant be too stressed or in too bad of shape because he is still fully colored up and defends himself against fin nips just fine.
