Could be (many puffers look similar) Tetrodon palambangensis, from the freshwaters of Southeast Asia, reaches approx 8", is not really suited for a community tank.

Yep, that's a Monotrete palembangensis (old: Tetraodon) or humpback or dragon or black river puffer. It's a full FW species. It's a stalk and ambush predator that can be disastrous in comm setups since even a test bite can kill. However, it's not overly aggressive with other palembangs in the tank. Be sure to provide lots of caves and rock/driftwood overhangs. Good visual breaks between caves will also help reduce interspecies aggression. Sensitive to water quality and a messy eater so, overfiltration is a must to keep this species happy. Can be treated with salt and increased temp for fungal infections.

^yes. They get around 8 inches. Can't really put them with anything. I tried cichlids, small tetras to no avail. They are highly predatory, and love eating fish, crawdads, shrimp, etc.. 40 gallon would be good for life. They hardly move. They are an ambush predator.

X2

But be warned they are a LURKER species which will basically never move unless its feeding time...

So unless you dont mind having a living, eating, pooping log in your tank, this may not be the best puffer to choose...

yea I read this is a semi-lurker. I will have to keep searching.

Honestly i wouldnt even call them semi-lurkers...

My old male would hang out in his cave all day long, while the female would find a different resting place every few hours... But i never really saw them swim...

I mean if you are into lurker species they can be quite interesting, but if i were to get a lurker puffer again, i would definitely choose a congo puffer > any other lurker species of puffer...
