found interesting stuff at ACE hardware... filter media?

Used to keep leaved and debris out of gutters my local ACE has it for $15 for a 4 foot piece. I was thinking of cutting it up in pieces and using it as a biomedia.

I believe they sell whole rolls of that for like $4 Home Depot. I use it for all sorts of DIY crap. I suggest every hobbiest keep a roll in his/her closet. It comes in handy when you least expect it. Havent used it for bio though. Doesnt seem to be realistic, the amount it costs with what you get out of it, for bio that is.

I looked a bit closer at it. I'm thinking about gutter gaurd. Does the same thing, but not as condensed of a material.

I reckon this would be protection from the elements, sun, rain, snow, etc..
Anti-bacteria would not be beneficial for intended purpose of the material

I think their "advanced process" is just the thermal treatment they do to it. Thats what they brag about thru that whole page of test data. I'd still run it thru a hot wash cycle though.

EDIT: Link bookmarked for next year's home improvement season. Rainchains & copper gutter spires FTW! The hotel we stayed in on our honeymoon had rain chains & it is the most relaxing sound ever.

I wouldn't use it. As I understand it, it has been impregnated with antimicrobial agents. Over time, these will leach into your aquarium water...effect unknown. The formulation of this material is simply too complex and risky for use in a biological system. Just get the mundane open cell foam that they sell for air filtration.
