Jake, I believe he was wondering what rain chains were. He made it bold in the quote. I too would like to know what these rain chains do.

Dang, I must've been feelin feisty last night! Sorry bout that! Anyhow, rainchains act like a gutter's downpipe, but are much more versatile. I don't know if they flow as much though, so do some research before swapping out all your downpipes for chains.

Basically, the surface tension of the water makes it "cling" to the chain as it falls, which makes one of the most peaceful noises ever (much nicer & quieter than downpipes). It also makes it easier to collect and/or redirect that water wherever you want it. The chain can be slanted over to a garden or collection vessel of whatever kind, and the water will follow the chain's path, within reason (wont flow up or get past drip loops). In addition, the chain can be easily moved or adjusted any time since its not a hard pipe & not attached to the wall. The sound is the biggest thing for us, though. On our honeymoon in Costa Rica, the hotel had rain chains every 10 feet or so on all the gutters. They ran down & were anchored to a sewer-type grate on the ground, then to wherever the hotel stored the water. I think they had a big holding tank or something so they could use it to keep the place nice & green during the dry season. That website had some really nice looking chains & all kinds of accessories for collecting it & to tune the sound.
