This is why you shouldn't be able to sell these guys in pet stores. You should only be able to get one from a breeder. It might help curb these situations that are all too common with large herp species.

I don't think you can sell American alligators in pet stores in any state. And in the states where you are allowed to keep them, you need a license to do it legally. The rules are different for other crocodilians.
