Hey, I finally got a thermometer. I put it in about the middle of the cage, so it is not under the heat lamp. It says it is about 62 or 63 degrees farenheit. I imagine this is too cold for my corn snake. What can I do to raise the temperature, and what should the temperature be? Is there some device I should buy from the pet store? Thanks, I want all to be well for my snake.

You'll need a heat pad along with a rheostat, or better, a thermostat to control it.
Or a bulb with higher wattage.
Or a warmer room...
If its 62-63 in the cage, what temperature is your house? Room temperature is a huge factor in what temperature the cage will be. IMO reptiles have no business being kept in rooms less than 70 degrees regardless of your heating setup, doing so just makes your setup harder to heat and also risks the health of the reptile should the heating system shut down.

In reality you should be testing the hot spot of the cage, not the air but like in or next to the hide on the ground. Also that is very cool even for a cool side. I imagine you don't have enough heat. I'd take elevatethis advice and get a decent heat pad and thermostat. Find out what the hot spot is also.

When I turn on the heater for a bit, the temperature goes to about 70 or 71, but obviously I can't keep the heater on forever. So I guess I should get a thermostat then. Can you guys give me some recommendations on some good ones? I'm willing to spend the money to get my snake to live. Thanks.

dude just for you,Easy set up.See the heat pad and the heat lamp,if your using both i would use a low wat lamp but see at nite when you turn the lamp off,the pad will keep it warm over nite.You dont want to run your house heater all the time for the snake it will be cheaper to buy the pad.I place a flat thin peice of wood inside the tank above the pad for mine so they dont burn but thats just whats worked for me all these years.Now im posting the best pic ive ever drawn just for you so you better like it and if your at home rolling your eyes or laughing at me im gonna come get you,lol.You guys will love this.
