Found possible parasite in p14 tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, some good news. I forgot to throw in black worms yesterday morning, and did not get home till late. He was actually out searching the tank for food. i cut up a crawler and through some small pieces in there. He actually ate a few pieces!! Which this is the first for him since 3 weeks ago. Afterward i also gave him some black worms and he ate some of those too.
While getting the blackworms out of the container, i found another worm just like the one i posted. This one was IN the black worms. So i have no doubt that the worm i found also came from the black worms too. So i doubt this is what is causing the issues. He is still swollen, but i feel good that he is much more interested in food.
HUH!!! crazy I have never seen these in my black worms but never say never LOL!!! I guess not the culprit but still lurking i would be willing to bet !!

Blackworms are frozen food? If it is(im from Norway and somethimes i dont get what kind of food it is) i cant see how it can bring anything?
Black worms are live food over here in the states, literally black or deep purple and reach 1.5". Blood worms are frozen, different type and are much smaller and not nearly as nutritious.

Hi all,

I am sorry, but this "parasite" look like a simple white mosquito larvae of for example Chaoborus plumicornis, C. crystallinus or some close relative to those.
It's just fish food and no parasite......in my opinion for sure no Nematodes and no Lernaea spec. (anchor worm).

No indication to treat against!

Regards
Stefan

Thanks, StefanW. I appreciate it. I found more in the worms, so figured it was the case.
He is eating somewhat better, but still swollen.

Fm, thanks for the info.
