I woke up this morning and saw a centipede looking thing (40 legs) sitting on a rock in my fish tank.....probably 2 or 3 inches long. Where in the world did this come from???? I haven't introduced any new driftwood or anything in over a year. A fish did swim by and stirred the water up and the centipede looks like it is dead as it didn't move. I will try to post a pictured sometime soon. Very strange and creepy

yea were gonna need some pictures of that. Does sound weird. were talking about a freshwater tank right?

yeah, it's freshwater. I'm at work and don't have the picture....I will try to put it up when I get home tonight

Assuming it's dead, it sounds like a house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) or something along those lines. I'm not sure how it would manage to sink without a fish gobbling it up, but I've seen stranger things.

If it is alive then I have absolutely no idea.

Kind of what I was thinking. The spring Japanese Beetle invasion has started in Iowa and I keep finding them in my tanks. They don't last long in the Cichlid tanks but I keep having to clean them out of my saltwater tank.

i would say it fell into your tank and died.

It probably is a centipede that just fell into your tank.

I had a couple earwigs end up in my angelfish tank last year...

centipedes are one of the few bugs that really freak me out :irked::nilly:

For good reason... Those things have a lot more painful of a bite then you might expect.
