Found a turtle. I don't usually think it's okay to just go and capture a wild animal but I don't think he's looking too good. To me, he looks like a severely deformed box turtle but I wanted to know what you guys thought and if you had any ideas on what to do. I set him up in a 75 gallon tank with dirt and rocks. Idk what to do. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I found him right by my front door. I actually think a bird or something might have been trying to eat him and then dropped it? Not sure...I feel bad for the little guy. At first he could only open one eye but i used some warm water and quetip to clean him up a little. He has a great tempermant surprisingly.

he just needs a comfy enclosure and good food.

Sure looks like his carapace is severely deformed.

Yea, it's pretty bad watching him walk. I'm trying to teach him to use his front legs though. Idk if you can tell from the pictures but he likes to leave them straight back.

VicousFish and Coura ( among others ) know a lot about these turtles. I'd send them a PM if they don't chime in.

and you are most wellcome. I just know zilch about Box Turtles. Let us wait for some of them experts to show up.

I'm starting to think turtles are drawn to me. I actually kidnapped my baby red-eared sliders from a 10 gallon tank with no heater, no filter and I doubt they were fed. I have a soft spot for turtles lol

That damage is amazing he was definitely a pet. Wild turtles do not develop those deformities. Someone must have been feeding a ton of garbage.

Dirt and rocks are a poor substrate for box turtles, you will not hold sufficient humidity. If you keep him next year you might want to looking into an outdoor pen; box turtles fare poorly in aquariums.
