Yeah, right now the 3 in the 29-gallon are around 3 and a half to 4 inches while the 4th (in QT tank because he's so small he never got any food) is only 2 inches... they're not as active now as they were when I first got them ,which is most likely because of some changes made to the tank (probably has them spooked)..
They eat pretty much anything from blood worms to shrimp pellets and become more active in larger groups...

Yeah mine get that way when traffic around the tank increases.. also my two largest 4-lines have now tried to spawn 4 different times, so I'm hoping as they mature they will succeed in spawning....

Everything I have read said you can't sex them and said that they have not bred in aquarium.

I can't sex them but they are very attracted to each other an are always together.. as for what they do, they're doing the same thing any fish does when attempting to spawn I.E nipping at each and rapidly locking on to each other and flipping back and forth against each other (trying not to be to graphic but I'm sure you get the idea lol)..
