Four of my bigger Central Americans

All good. It didn't seem very clear to me when you mentioned 80 ppm nitrates at times, and dosing septic tank bacteria soon to eat the nitrates. Purigen will help, I have experience with it as well, but just like septic bacteria it too will not replace water changes. Good to hear about the planned upgrade.

I understand that, and I dose powdered calcium carbonate to offset any acidic creep should it occur if I'm unable to do a water change (sick, emergency, etc). I test near daily to ensure stable parameters and have a purigen reactor with enough purigen for 20,000 gallons that removes the dissolved organics. And the aforementioned Safe prevents any issues with toxicity. This isn't their final tank and I will be upgrading again, potentially multiple times.

As the fish grow of course there's a larger tank in their future, this isn't their final tank. Appreciate the concern.
Good to hear. Not sure how much experience you have with these kind of fish but they can turn on each other overnight. I would keep a divider at hand in case of an emergency.

Ofncourse

Of course, and I hope I don't come off as advocating no water changes.
My main issue is I only have 500sqft so I can't fit a third large tank. Once my grow outs are large enough to cohabitate, then I'll sell my 100 gallon rack and buy a custom 8'x3'x2.5' tank. Plumb in an automated water change system and enjoy.
