I'm have trouble deciding what to put in my 125g FOWLR that is cycling right now. I also really want a Russells Lionfish as the center piece but I can't decide tank mates. I'm leaning towards Powderbrown tang, Foxface Lo, and GSM. How does that sound? The powderbrown is a peaceful tang do you think I could add another peaceful tang? Or maybe a Snowflake Eel or Zebra Eel? I'm trying to bare bottom so a lot of wrasses are out of the question. Any ideas or problems you see. I get my light tomorrow so I will have pics up on Thursday.

why do you want it barebottom? there are a lot of added benefits to having live sand.
what is a GSM?
eels and lions are a classic combination and anything big enough to not be food but small enough to not be hunting it will work with lions, except most triggers. larger hawks clowns and damsels are cool as are wrasses angels butterflies small sharks (not for 125 though) and other lions, should all worjk

I'm going barebottome for ease of maintaince. If I did run a sand bed it would be only 1", and you don't get any real benefits from a sand bed unless you are running 5"+ of sand. Gold Strip Maroon is what I was referring to.

well you'd atleast get some buffering and if you did a plenum you only need three inches, but that's irrelevent.
so i take it you want more of the smallerish fish, more so than what i listed.
i would do your clowns and some butterlies (addis, bannerfish, threadfin, falcula, flase falcula are just some of my favorites) and a showpeice angel, like a french or something, maybe anthias (lyre tail, squarespot, dusky, etc) squirrel fish if you like them,i do, and one of the more docile triggers (niger, picasso, etc) or some kind of wrasse

are you looking to do a reef or FOWLR?

nevermind just read the title again

ok well the tangs will works as will the butterflys and angels but no triggers. wrasses still work as do groupers. i'm not sure if the clowns are a good idea though, it MAY work if the clowns are in long enough so they have time o grow so they don't get eaten, but that's iffy. could also do the same with larger damsels (sgt mjr, dominos, garabaldis, mex giant damsels)

Garibaldis are coldwater damels. They require a chilled tank with temps in the high 50s to lower 60s, so they will not work in the setup you have in mind.

oh, i did not know that, sorry.

Don't be sorry. :P

They are neat though. The aquarium I work at has a California Kelp Forest exhibit with a couple garibaldis among other things and they are really neat fish. Would be cool to have one in a specialized tank.
