FOWLR 125g stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well cycle finished this weekend so today I bought a 4" Volitans Lionfish and 5" Blue Hippo Tang. The lionfish is already eating frozen foods. I think I might add 3 schooling bannerfish and be done with it. How does that sound? and maybe a snowflake or zebra eel if I see one that catches my eye.

if i was going to add butterflies to a tank like that i think i would more likely get addis butterflies cause there will be a lot of black and white in the tank already, without them, they will still school pretty good but are yellow instead.
and, again, just me but i would get maybe some kind of wrasse instead of an eel. eels are too secretive and shy IMO and i like the boldness of wrasses better, but it's your tank, your choice.

I think that would be a pretty nice tank. I love schools of Heniochus...very majestic. A zebra moray would be a great addition as well, but if that's too much black and white for you, a Harlequin Tusk is a bold fish without the aggression of the typical wrasse.

as it turns out my volitan isn't a volitan but a russells. which is good news that was the lionfish I originally wanted. here are some pics.

Great pics i want a lion myself

the lionfish is doing great. My current stocklist is:
5" russelles lionfish
5" hippo tang
6" yellow tang
20+" zebra eel
and I have a 3" blonde naso tang and a couple humbug damsels in QT right now. I have a 300g in the garage that all the fish will go into eventually.

just never add a trigger with your lion as even my niger(peaceful!) bit off my lion's fins and they take ages to grow back and they are never the same,i would love to see a pic of your eel

sounds like a good FOWLR tank. I totally agree with the BB being easier to keep. you don't need to worry about calcium and alk as much and your PH should be fine if you use RO water to top off evap.
