I have a fish and invert tank, and have had problems with marine ich. The problem wiped out my first stock, and my second one is doing OK, although the problem persists with some species. My Coral Beauty gets it on occasion, but my cleaner shrimp takes care of it, the fish is fine. I also have A true Percula, A Firefish, and a Green Banded Goby, all healthy. My Neon Gobies are covered with Ich, and my Royal Gramma died from it. I want another Royal, but don't want to get it until the problem is under control. Inverts in the tank are some crabs, a Peppermint shrimp, Cleaner Shrimp, Turbo Snails, Sand Sifting Star, and an Arrow Crab. Suggestions would be helpful. I have been thinking about a UV Filter.

you can do a uv as long as your tank isn't a reef. But also remember that it needs to be 30+ watts for it to be effective in killing single celled organisms (which ich is).

30 watts? That sounds very expensive. The small Turbo Twist is 9 watts. Any other suggestions?

raise themp about 3-4* and lower the salinity about .003 (i think that's right, the smallest unit on your hydrometer)

What temp? 82 Deg F? Salinity 1.020?

yeah the temp should be about 81* and the salinity around 1.021. teh ich bacteria? don't like high temps and low salt. these are the conditions that i keep my QT tank at, and they seem to heal right up.

Lowered Salinity to 1.020 and turned heater up. We'll see what happens.

You really should take all the fish out and place them in a qt tank and treat for the ick. Leave the display tank free of any fish for at least 5 weeks. I don't think salinity at 1.020 is low enough to kill the ick. But, it's not good for the rest of your inverts.

We'll see how all the creatures react. I did leave the tank fish free for a month, but the ich returned. The fish bring it with them. That would explain the need for a quarantine tank eh?
