Yupp.. all about the pearl neatness once the color is there and the color on your fish is really nice..

I agree about the pattern. It seems like his pearls are just getting thicker though and distorting/covering red areas. I don't think he's sick. I went as far as buying this tank its own set of tools(bucket, net, siphon, sponges). He's just turning a more solid blue is all. I'd have bought a silk if I knew that would happen. Anyhow I'm hoping to have him a long time. I even went bare bottom which I'm not to fond of to keep things neat.

If yess,
Then it has vieja genes so it requires different water chemistry than a ZZ

So i say your fish is not feeling to comfortable in its tank right now..

He's just a flowerhorn. Not sure of lineage but bought from chonburimon as white tiger, according to him. I'm more into face shape, so I scored this guy. All my fish just get treated tap water. I feel he's comfortable though, he tries to spawn with the bp every month or so. I think it's just the pearls getting bigger. I did add small crickets to his diet recently and occasionally mealworms, my lizards extras. I only wanted to share because I didn't know he was going to pearl over so much, which surprised me... I figured at 6" or so back in April he was already done changing.

Sounds like you are doing everything right.
Its just that the water chemistry may be off, like ph .

Vieja based FH are very moody fish and are bothered if the ph is not right..
