I like to poke them with my speargun when I'm spearfishing. A couple years back, I was diving out at Catalina for Yellowtail. It was batray breeding time. They were gathered in the hundreds, amazing site. I had fun dropping down on them and swatting them with my fins, then watching them freak out.
Yup, I hate batray with a passion, as do most So Cal fishermen. They are a pain in the butt when fishing for White Seabass. Always coming through and taking the squid you are soaking for WSB.

im asian xD and ive eaten bat ray before , although i rarely catches em and i do respect them for the "fight" they put up. i personally think they r somewhat edible if cooked correctly ( with no hint of the nasty slime they have) ..... and i actually went to that famous cook school in Napa valley, and the high end restaurant there, and i got served some fried stingray ( not sure if its bat ray) but .... man, that turned out really nice ... or perhaps its just because my parents made me eat it n it costed like 30 bux -_-

catch and release is wat its bout!!! ive wanted to catch a ray of belmar or wherever on the nj shore since last summer my friend pulled out like a 40 pounder but thats put to shame by the 110 bat ray
