I recently purchased a used 75 gallon tank + custom stand and have it in acorner of my 2nd floor apartment, the building was built in the 50's I'd say.

Now, there was a fire in the apartment before i ever moved in, so everything was brand new, but the floor is pretty uneven.

I might just be paranoid, but EVERY time i here a floorboard squek or any sort of noise (ie even cats scratching litter box), i just freak out and think the floor is collapsing beneath the tank. I have trouble even sleeping at night cause every time i hear a noise, my heart just starts to beat rapidly.

Either im a freak, or some of you have experienced these issues. Everything I read said 75 gallons shouldn't be a problem, but I dont know what to do. Any suggestions? BTW, its been up and running for about 10 days now.

I wouldnt worry too much.
the footprint of a 75 gallon tank probably has less weight per square inch than an average 6 ft man standing in one spot. (im just guessing so dont quote me on that.)

Is it against a load baring wall? If so I'd say you're good to go.

Just don't let any big women by the tank and you should be fine.

If all the floorboards have been replaced you should be fine but I wouldn't go any bigger than a 75 if you're on the second floor.

because its old most creaks are from nails or loose boards

Or even a temperature change :grinyes:

Yea I wouldnt sweat it, Do you know if your tank is sitting across the joists or going the same direction? If it is running with the joists it might be a good idea to put a piece of 3/4 ply maybe 2' wide by the overall length of your stand, that way you can catch at least 2 joists. If you do not know which way the joists are running, just look at the overall length and width of the house/apt, usually the floor joists should be running in the direction of the shortest span of the house.

Sounds like you are OK. If the tank has lasted this long, it should be fine.
