hi i have 3x ABS plastic pipe sections for free p/u.
i just bought them this afternoon thinking they would be good hiding places... these float, which isnt what i wanted... and i can't return them to home depot since they were cut up. :irked:

total pipe length prior to cutting them up was 2". two pieces are 7.5" or so, and one is about 9". diameter is 4". makes great floating hiding places for cichlids and other fish.

free to whoever wants it. pm me if you are interested. would be great if you have large flowerpots to swap lol... but no worries if you don't :D
location - mission viejo, california

pvc sinks if you like the pipe idea! and schedual 80 pipe is a dark grey instead of white

If you buy the black ABS "joints" such as the elbows, tees, etc. those sink. The pipes themselves are very porus, as you found out.

silicone a flat stone on the bottom cover that with gravel - instant cave that stays put.

Ya i used ABS for my cat fish... he loved it.. i had to put rocks on top... but i remember... one time a fish knocked over a rock and the hole thing gave away and went up...with the cat fish still inside the tube lol. Try clay pipe.. i have a load of the old stuff laying around from my old job.. it works like a charm and when some green stuff grows on it, it looks nice. Old pipe stuff.

i woke up this morning at like 4am and thought about the 'silicone slate onto the pipe' solution :) (yes, i can't believe i woke up to that thought either...)

in any case, to all comments above - i don't want to put rocks inside my tanks because large cichlids like to dig/move around a lot and i dont want them to get injured or come home to a cracked tank...

i'm going to get the silicone and slate later today - any cheap places? home depot? lowe's?
thanks for the help, guys :)
