can anyone point me to a snake or reptile forum? I am interested in getting a RTB. If BP's didnt have such a bad rep for being picky eaters, id like them more. I think 7 to 8 foot is the cut-off for me.

Retics and Burms just get to big for me to own.

Oh come on, Show me a 12 foot Red tail boa, that WASNT a myth,
lets not exadurate, I have full grown WELL fed, 8-9 foot female Suri's,
they are complete monsters, i have only ever seen TWO bigger then that in my life, (biggest was at 10 and 1/4 foot) and ive heard a few accounts of them getting even bigger, but very few people can PROVE it is,

If you don't have many reptile stores around its probably a Colombian BCI
If its male, it will stay pretty small, 4-5 ft average, female 5-6 Average,
not saying they can't get bigger, with good feeding and care, they may.. but probably not. Nothing compared to some of the BCC Monster locales, so don't worry yourself,

Honestly a RTB is more pleasure to work with then a BP would ever be, Boas are more active, more fun, less picky... if its a boa jump on the offer, BPs are a pain in the ass,

Actually mate, The breeder I got my boa from had aload of other boas, Including a female pushing 12 foot....

Don't accuse me of exaggerating please, I don't do it, why would I?

I'm not boasting about having a boa 12 foot am I? So don't see no reason to exaggerate ;)

BCI FEMALE 5-6 FOOT?
Sorry. Have to call you on this one.

Again that breeder had many of these, most the females were around 8+foot. And males 7 foot.

I saw the dad of my BCC/BCI cross, and he was at LEAST 7 foot (and no I am NOT exaggerating!).

he used to be a pain in the butt LOL. nasty wen i got him. But you know something hes a little darl now. great feeder. great too handle, not too active but not to still, pretty to look at, no hassle at all. great species. Heres some pics of him. Looks alot better now though :)

I never once said they DONT get that big, Some locales CAN, but thats under perfect conditions, something very few keepers give..

An average for a species would better let him choose because just because theres rare cases of much bigger, i doubt that would happen, and if it did, he could sell that extra large specimen for a good buck,

And yes, i said average for Female BCI 5-6 feet, why? Because hes not planning on breeding it, so he will not pump it full of food, he will most likely Not move onto rabbits as a food source, and the growth will slow down..

I have seen lots of Female BCI at 7-8 foot, but all of them were in pristine conditions fed Rabbits once they broke 6 foot, i think the rabbit as a prey item really boosts growth,

BCI are a GREAT snake to work with... I am currently sitting with a 5 foot male around my leg, amazing snakes, and a much better option then a BP if you can have a 4x2x1 viv for him... thats the only difference, a male BCI needs 4x2x1, and Male BP you could get away with 3x1x1 or netter. 3x1.5x1.

so boas need a bit more room for a common, BUT greater snake, less picky and much more fun.. they dont hide ALL the time, tho they still hide lots,

just my two cents.

i know you ever said they dont get that big. My point was you told me I was exaggerating when I was not.

I was giving him a maximum length. JUST INCASE. people need to know these rare cases.
The snakes I saw were not 'pumped with food' more fed as they should be fed. These were pets long before he decided to breed them..

oh and because most female bci's exceed 6 feet..if fed CORRECTLY. NOT pumped, nor overfed.

6' for a female boa sounds odd to me... but I am not too surprised. I seen a lot of female JCPs and CCPs that are undersized for their age.
