i live on long island and i was wondering if i could safely release a lobster meant for the cooking pot if i snap the rubber bands on his claws off. there were once many lobsters in the bay but they're almost gone here, if i drop him in wpuld that be okay

thanks

I would not. It is never a good idea to release fish back into the wild even if they were wild at one point. You might end up hurting the population more than helping it.

No, please don't release a 'food' lobster into the wild. Chances are, it has been kept in some sort of holding tank or display tank and you could introduce diseases to the fish and inverts in the wild. That would be a terrible, terrible thing.

i wouldnt, it may seem like youd be freeing a lobster from death and saving the bay, but it can cause alot of problems down the road
