I dont use anything. As long as your smart about what you do and dont download or open any sketchy executable files...you almost cant get a virus.

I think the biggest viruses out there are virus protection crap. Pop up warning about what your doing annoying alerts telling you you have to update. Blocking certain browser features... one of the most debilitating viruses I can think of actually

Unless you're running some sort of unix without root privileges, you're vulnerable. Right now there is an active exploit in Adobe Flash. If you have the player installed and browse a web site that may have a 3rd party flash link that's compromised, you're getting nailed too. Then again using firefox + no-script + adblock + no extra viewers/plugins you'd be fine. Unless there's an exploit out for firefox. And that does happen from time to time

I guess if you're running a 8 year old PC, AV software may impact performance, but if you have anything modern, you'll barely notice it's there. I've had games not exit properly and eat up 500mb ram and 30% CPU and I didn't notice it for 2 days on my overclocked q6600 & 4gb ram
