Stay with me on this... I like to muse on aquarium topics concerning filtration.

I understand the need to hide filters, hoses and other mechanical equipment. People want "nature" in their living rooms, and seeing mechanical stuff pulls back the curtain on the wizard of oz. I get it.

But allow me to offer up a different idea.

I want to see your canisters. I want to see your sumps. I want to see plumbing. I'd like to see Lucite canister motor housings. I want to see Lucite sump pumps. I want to see hard-piping linking LED lit Lucite Head Canisters.

Stop hiding you mechanicals people. I was much more interested in the wizard of Oz's control panel, instead of his fancy special effects display.

Don't just pull back the curtain. Tear it down! Fully integrated hard-piped, modular Lucite motor driven filtration goodness.

I guess what i'm driving it is that there should be no reason for the sticky above that shows people what's under their tank, it should be part and parcel of the tour! :)

I agree because I am a freak and dig the tech and technique for setups. Actually I am more into peoples DIY projects and pics of their setups than pics of their fish..

"yeh sure.. he had some nice cichlids.. but did you see his filter plumbing?!? THAT is wtf I'm talking about..."

Totally agree with you Redearsunfish, the filtration and mechanics are some of the best parts about looking at people's tanks. It's always fun to see how everybody gets (basically) the same things done in the their own way.

My Eheim Peo 3e 2078 is outside of my stand cabinet & sits beside the tank; this way I can see the lights on it to know if there is a reduction in flow or any other issue.

It's so quiet that the only time I actually notice it is when it does a regular flow check (the lights flash like Kit for a minute)

All that extra junk just looks like a disorganized mess most of the time. I'll stick to hiding it when possible.

I love seeing how things work but I ain't pulling the hood off my car to drive around town. Maybe it's just me but I want to see it when I want and put it back in stealth mode when I don't.

Most of my tanks are in the main living areas of my house so it's nice to only see the viewing areas most of the time ....

For example, this (pic i found on the interwebs) is my kind of pornography:

(Yes I know its salt, but it illustrated my point.)

Now, if the motor head was Lucite, i'd have to change my shorts.
