FREEZE FISH

The freezing thing is F___ed up, but I ALWAYS call before I go through the effort of netting and transporting any fish I am donating... I want to make SURE that they will be able to accept the fish before I get there. Most places (LFS's) only have one guy per store that oks the adoption.

Just sayin'.

yeah the petco by me has a couple employees that will accept fish for adoption. and im pretty sure they dont tell managment about it, sneaky sneaky...

Agreed.

when i first started fishkeeping i read in several sources that freezing was the best way to euthanize ailing fish and I'm pretty sure that at one time that was regarded as the best method. it wasn't until i joined here that i realized just how cruel freezing was. the petco employee was most likely just misinformed. and most stores wont take in fish if you don't call them first, i work in a lfs and i hate it when people show up out of the blue with a fish in a ziplock baggie

Clove oil is a better euthanization method. Puts them to sleep, then you add more to stop their brain and they just die in their sleep instead of the agony of having their blood crystallize in a freezer.

My Petco tells people they'll accept adoptions but when you show up they suddenly change their mind. I've witnessed three or four separate occasions where customers brought in a fish after calling to check first only to be sent on their way. I also found my old raphael catfish there. So I think some employees say one thing and others say the opposite. So when you call, get the name. Then don't talk to anybody else about the fish but that one person who said they'd take the fish.
