I have 2 Lates Mundi in a grow out tank... one got big fast and i tossed him in the 300... as soon as he hit the water, he started swimming like his back tail didnt work?? The next morn his tail was raw meat but still swimming funny like if his tail was broken (it looks like half his body works??). Its been 3 days now and he dont look like he is getting better... Ive been adding Salt but I dont see him eating and he just stays in one place.

Should I intriduce him to my Freezer?

Agree. Then give it a little to see if he improves before you want to euthanize. Also I wouldn't suggest the freezer if not an emergency. Get some clove oil or a product specially made for fish euthanization called "Euthanase". It's about $10.00 and IMO better/easier than sticking stuff in the freezer.

put him in his own tank and add some melafix.

I dont have a spare tank for him:grinno::cry:

Im assuming hes suffering so thats why Im thinking about the "IceCubes"

Wow, I didnt know they sold stuff like this?

I have a grow out tank but it has Valuble grow outs... GATF/FATF/Orinos... Thats where he was with his lil buddy:(

Then IMO I would give him a few more days and if it still looks like he isn't improving euthanize. It's only been 3. But all in all you have to be the one to use your judgement and say whether he's going to improve or not.

And yeah they sell stuff like that. Probably not everywhere but I have some.

Im going to see how it goes... any guesses on how this happened?
I chased him in the 50gl and then put him in my 300... it was as simple as that. Once he hit the water, he was swimming weird and never stopped??

Both tanks the water is with in 3-4* of Temp... ive done this before with even Bala Sharks (they are suppos fragile fish?) and no problems

Barra can be fragile when moving. I'm not really sure why. Usually though it's much worse than what it seems yours is doing. I picked up a larger one about a week ago and he was 100% fine in the tank I saw him at the persons house, then once I netted him which was almost instantly with no chasing/damage and put him in the rubbermaid he went upside down. After many attempts to save him he never recovered and a few days later I put him down.

I'm not really sure why it happens. This was my first case of it. I have heard of a few cases of the same thing. But it seems stress or some other effect can do real damage in moving.

Yours doesn't sound like it's that bad off since he's upright. That's why I was saying let him live for a few more days.

I dont want to put him down (I think its messed up to do so)... but if it sounds like he has to (based on MFK responces...) then I will. It sounds like I dont have to...

He dont swim, he wiggles:screwy:... only the front part of his body works (from the fins forward) and this makes him wiggle. The one thing that scares me is his tail... he has no fin and it is raw meat? Dont know if someone tried to eat him tail first but it dont look like it (It looks like only his scales fell off). He looks like a Mundi with a Tail (no fin).
Im watching that close cause if it gets infected, hes going to sleep. I cant risk the tankmates getting sick:(... I realy hope he shows improvement

Thanks

too bad you can't put him in the 50 by himself. Add some melafix to the tank and see how it does.

My catfish had open wounds showing flesh but with melafix and frequent water changes, it is fully healed.
