Update... I felt I couldnt do anything for him so I gave him away and hopefuly they can help him

Thanks fellas :)

Going thru the same problem.... This was the post that I did on the 7th, had alot of view's but no one answered. But mine is healthy and sticks up for himself if someone goes around his rock. He glides to the top for food then goes back to his spot. So I would say dont freeze him he will make it. But just keep an eye on him to make sure he eats and stuff. Good luck

Paralyzed Fish ?

One of my chiclids that I had since he was 2 inches got his butt whooped by another fish in my tank. Ever since then he cant move his tail and also he is the same size. So i dont know if this stunted his growth or anything but he did not grow at all.... All the other's tripled there size and yet he is the same. I know that its bad but me and my girlfriend call him glider cause he glides thru out the tank. He can still eat and "glide" around so he is still healthy but I was just wondering if anyone could help me or had the same situation

Barra can be fragile when moving. I'm not really sure why. Usually though it's much worse than what it seems yours is doing. I picked up a larger one about a week ago and he was 100% fine in the tank I saw him at the persons house, then once I netted him which was almost instantly with no chasing/damage and put him in the rubbermaid he went upside down. After many attempts to save him he never recovered and a few days later I put him down.

I'm not really sure why it happens. This was my first case of it. I have heard of a few cases of the same thing. But it seems stress or some other effect can do real damage in moving.

Yours doesn't sound like it's that bad off since he's upright. That's why I was saying let him live for a few more days.
This is interesting because I've seen them in the Asian markets in fifty gallon tanks and really packed in to the point where I cant see how they can even breathe. It led me to think that they are pretty tough fish as Ididnt see any dead ones but plenty in bad shape.

Don't put him in the freezer, barra's can do that, till they are a bit more used to the place. Happened to one of mine, after a few days, he was swimming like the others.

I've moved many barra's.. many many times without issue. You are right. They are infact hardy fish. I've moved 12" barra's no problem. And I've moved 20"++ barra's no problem. This problem that we're talking about only happens when moving, and only seems to happen in certain situations. There has to be something small that leads to this difficulty in moving as it's only a small percentage of the time it happens. Both from what we see from others experiance and from my own experiance.

I was talking to Li about it briefly and from what he said I think it might be related to feeding right before moving/not starving the fish before moving.

Glad the fish is recovering. I do think the tail being so short/seemingly rotting was because of a tank mate. But that's only a guess.
