Keep the filters you have and just add another if you want. That way you have no filter cycling problems. The existing filters just do their thing while the new unit gets established and then they share the load.
Several medium size filters is generally safer than one big unit. If a filter gets blocked or fails for some reason, the others will handle the job until you fix the problem.
To remove the solid waste you need more current to swirl things around the tank. The poo goes round n round untill a filter sucks it up. A couple of extra powerheads can be stragetically placed to help this.
