and what dr joe said.. would it be a good idea to add a preasure gauge to be safe?

There's no need for a pressure guage. He really was pointing out that you should ensure that you have the right pump for the job.

Size of the pump would depend on the size of the filter that you are making. If you go with Dr. Joe's measurements, you could put a fairly large pump on it.

so with a 6'' diameter tube 16in long, iono why he wrote 12', but yeah with those measurments would a 700 gph be to much or should i buy one smaller

Probably wouldn't want to go over that, but it should be ok.

you should be able to do that with a smaller pump, post pics with your progress

yeah... but a bigger pump would be better in my case... ill post pics as soon as possibe thanks everyone :D

For a mechanical filter, it is designed right, you don't need a whole lot of pressure on the system.

dosnt look like a good idea :/

When I did my canister, I was having problems with the screw-on cap; it requiered alot of force to seal right and it was a pain to undo since there were so many turns. This is what I did...

yeah but it shouldnt be such a problem... so for yours, the intake siphons the water into the tank and the pump pull it out to the return? cause mine is opposite, the pump pulls water from the tank and pushes it through the cannister and let the rest of the force to push it back to the tank. good idea? or not.
