fresh water dip ....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You want lower salt.
I'd only bump copper up about .5 per day. Since you started, you'll want to keep running it for about 2 weeks at a 2.0 level. And like Fleshy said, you now will always have a copper soaked tank, so you can't have fish sensative to it, inverts or coral. Just keep that in mind when adding more stock later.

After reading this thread...and thinking of my past with the fight of ick. I have just put together a 10 gallon quarantine system.I'm probably going to do a permanent quarantine system. If you have the room, you should have one. How I'm gonna make this permanent I don't now lol. I'm probably going to place my current tank water which the parameters are all excellent....finally....in the QT....GL hope you get rid of that ick infestation.

QT is good, but seriously, if you are having issues with ich, you did something else to cause it.

I havent gotten ich in probably 5 or 6 years.

I have bought fish with ich, but as soon as they enter my systems that all goes away. Good habitat, good h2o quality, and the best diet I can give them = healthy, happy, fish.

You seriously throw fish with ICH into tanks with healthy fish and everything works out ok? That would scare the s*** outta me.

I am not actually doubting you, I am just surprised.

I also would not advise it for anyone else.

Well...not really.

I generally wont buy sick fish.

At this point however, a tad of ich doesnt scare me.

I lost a whole tank to ich once, and I learned my lessons.

I have had fish come in with ich, I have had one tang show ich several times, but I made adjustments that fixed the problem within a week.

(He was reminding me that it had been 2 weeks without an h2o change, and that I hadnt been soaking his nori in selecon either! Both times it was just a couple spots, but cleared up immediately.)

I do NOT recommend other people to do this, but ich is something that really shouldnt be feared. What should be feared is sloppy husbandry. To put it into perspective, you can get rid of plaque or prevent cavities by brushing your teeth everyday. Just do the equivalent of the same by taking good care of your fish and you wont get ich.

Well said. I think almost all of us have learned our lessons that way.

Unfortunately yes, regrettably so many fish are being collected to support our SW urges, and many of them die to even get one into the store.

This is why its important that we keep learning, and try out best to keep every fish as well as we possibly can.

Please people, buy aquacultured when possible, and if not, buy your fish small.
