That is a stone fish/ stargazer lookalike..blackish water fish..slightly poisonous..ugly but cute.. ;)
INDEED HE IS RIGHT MY FRIEND that is no lion fish that is a stone fish had one myself they can live in straight freshwater and again he is right they ARE POISONOUS so watch yourself during water changes however they look kewl but do nothing he will sit at the bottom and only move if stirred not even when feeding did mine move i feed him live minnows and he wouldn't even chase em he would sit at the bottom all camoflaged and even when the minnows would sit right in front of him he would not strike until all he had to do was open his mouth and suck em in only one time in around 7 months of owning him did i see him slam a feeder but it was the most explosive thing i have ever seen!!!!! i didn't feed him for like 3 weeks and dropped 2 feeders in the one got about 3 inches in front of him and one quick jolt end of story VERY VERY EFFICIENT KILLER never once saw him strike prey and miss I unfortunitly boiled him when i moved left a heater on by accident with only 4 inches or so of water in a 75 gallon little buger was so camouflaged i forgot he was even in there!!! o yeah mine was in regular freshwater with a largemouth bass and my silver aro....if your wandering i ate the largemouth when I moved was a moral stuggle but he tasted so good!!!!

I paid $40 USD for mine. He was around 6 inches big ol fat belly on em...i guess they can live in saltwater if i remember correctly the guy at the LFS said people step on them at beaches and have been cases where individuals were rushed to hospital after encounters so agian be advised POISONOUS!! never had any troubles with him hurting my other fish that i noticed....food= live feeders fish that i know of im sure it would take out live crabs or shrimp but as for other food would probably have to use a grippers and wave it around in his face because they don't move much
