:-Fresh water lionfish?

Ok, I've got one and know one other person here in town with one. As far as everything I've tried looking up on these little buggers....yes, toadfish fresh but more of a brackish dude and is close to the stonefish family. Spines are said to be poisonous, and I haven't tested that yet He also makes a hell of a noise when he gets startled good or irritated in some sort of pursuit away from the net. Sounds kinda like one of those toys that is a stick with a slider in it that makes a goofy groaning noise when you turn it over. I hope someone has some better info because I want to know also.

I was looking through a oddballs section of a site any found a freshwater lionfish. Has anyone heard of them before and if so do they go with other quite large fish (they get to 12") or are they meant for a species tank? Venom is mild compared to some stonefish but worse than most catfisf stings, expect pain and swelling for acouple of days and some pain and numbspots or loss of function for weeks. As an aside there are several specie of sculpin in the Pac. NW that are listed as sw but have extensive full fw populations. This is probably a similar case.

Rog....but for those of us that are still figuring this guy out, Freshwater Lion catches the eye because that what they sell it as (common name) in the retail world.

The fish you speak of is BATRACHOMOEUS TRISPHINOSUS, or the three-spined toadfish. They are brackish fish which are easy to keep. I have had several over the years. Provide them with hiding places and feed live fish and shrimp, etc at night. One of mine took frozen food with no problem. They are lots of fun, just beware of the spines.

I can take a dump in a bag and tell you its a volcanic log fish that lives in the bottoms of volcanos... but that doesnt mean its true. Like the other dude said its totally a way of selling a product.
