Hi there i was hoping to set up a 29 gal tank with FW Puffers i don't really know anything about them tho. I have had a look on some web site's and read a little about what they have to say about them.

What can you tell me about them and what would be the best type to keep in a 29 gal and how many would be comfortable living together and can i keep mixed speices.

What sort of substrate would you recomend. And what decoration of the tank would you recomend???

Many thanks

Also can you tell me the best sort of filtration i have a internal fluval 4 plus any good ?

fw puffers are usualy brakish water. i have kept the figure 8 puffer and the spotted puffer. they are verry nippy. i had one small fig 8 puffer strip the fins off of a larg angel while i was at work.

they are kinda picky on what they eat. mine would only eat frozen brine and blood worms, and live food. though mine did take pellet and flake on ocasion (verry rairly.)

in a 29gal i would say you could keep probably 2-3 fig8. the puffers that i like are the pigmy puffer.

What is the dimensions of a 29gallon tank?

There are quite a few true FW puffers. Mbu, Fahaka, Congo, Dwarf puffer, etc.

Anything for substrate will be good. Too fine is no good though.

As for decorations, dwarf puffer will do good in a planted tank. The bigger puffers like Mbu and Fahaka will prefer less decorations and more space to swim. The congo puffer will need empty space and substrate for it to bury itself under the sand.

you can keep a solo ..

Tetrodon palembangensis

Tetraodon suvattii

or a

Tetrodon miurus.

I've never seen a Tetrodon miurus though.

I can't even believe I came across my Palembangenis. :hearts:

Well it's my b/fs, but I've had him in my TOTAL care for over a year, so he's offically MINE.
I WAS THERE WHEN HE BOUGHT HIM
EFF YOU CHRIS. :grinno:

He eats by hand: krill, frozen shrimp, and scallops

I feed him 2-3 times a week, which is OVER FEEDING.
Once they're maxed out at 6-7 inches, it's only once a week.
They don't move unless you come in the room, then they dance for food.
Otherwise they're motionless and chillin their caves.
That fat bastard. :hearts:

I love the miurus. Especially the red one. Striking red. BEAUTIFUL.

I feel like ordering one right now to see if my LFS can get it in for me.

I'm looking to keep puffer's arround 4 to 5 inches big what would you recomend ? i'd like to mix them if possible but not too fussed if i can't .

my tank is 40"x12"x20"

Would i have to supply cave's and other hiding areas or are they genrally placid???
