so can they be full fresh water or do they have to migrate to brackish then salt?

any. they have a special organ near their anus that regulates the salt in their body.

they caused quite a few deaths up the amazon (if i remembered correctly) because of a slaughter house flushing blood into the river. its abandoned now but a show was on discovery wild about them not long ago.

There are quite a few fish that can live in fresh and salt water - mollies, some cichlids (tilapia, Mayans....) and also quite a few that are born in fresh and migrate through brackish and end up as adults in the sea - scats, monos....

Bull Sharks are usually born in the sea, and usually stay in the sea, but they can live in fresh and commonly swim up rivers. They are found 1000 miles up the Amazon, and also commonly in Australian Rivers.

Zambezi Sharks are known to swim up African Rivers.

Cichlid is right

Often times dumping ground, waste plants and then on top slaughter houses near the amazon have lured these sharks in. There was a documented report of one being something like 2000 miles up the amazon...to the beginning pretty much. Lotta creepy things in there. They can survive anywhere and as stated have been doing so for millions of years..tons of documentaries on this

Theres few reports of Bull sharks in Missouri and Great Lakes but I dont know if its true.

kinda reminds me of that 80's movie "piranha" where the scientist turned the piranhas to salt water, or better yet, "piranha II" where they could fly.

ah, the 80's .... :grinno:
