Freshwater Bumble Bee Grouper

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They don't do real well in fw and in saly they not only get huge but all that color disappears as they grow. I saw a series of pics a few years ago where one about 6' long sucked in and then spit out the head and shoulders of a scuba diver, the two then rapidly headed in different directions. Apparently the diver was trying to scratch the fish on its nose like a dog or something.

I dont know but I think one of these guys with some datnoids and a peacock bass would be a sweet combo... :headbang2 Although I dont know how aggressive they are so it might not be a good mix... But if they could it would be sweet...

Now that I think about it most groupers are pretty pissed off so I dont know...

that makes me want to go scuba diving

Granted, this is a beautiful species. But, the coloration is a juvenile pattern. These brutes turn a muddy speckled brown color once they hit a couple of feet. Ultimately, you'll wind up with an ugly eating rock since these fish become sedentary as adults.

thanks for sharing that pic. i have to be honest that they look ugly when grown up. haha, but since they are not fully freshwater, then i dont think i want to harm the fish and keep it. but still its a beauty when young, esp those bright yellow and black color combination.
