In reefing, we use inverts (snails, crabs, etc...) to act us our clean up crew to eat nuisance algaes, detritus, etc...

Is there anything like that for freshwater? I'm planning my new 75 gallon freshwater build.

thanks

Shrimp, snails and some catfish are good cleaners, but all will need to be fed something other than leftovers.

What fish do you plan to keep?

Still undecided although I'm leaning strongly towards cichlids

Fei Fengs aka- Flagtail Prochilodus, do great at eating algae of the the walls, decors.. etc. IMO better than pleco's.

Well, in that case, unless they're dwarf cichlids, that rules out most FW cleanup species like shrimp and some snails

I agree that fei fengs are much better with algae than plecos. Mine keeps my tank super clean

Shucks, I'm guessing that will probably increase my tank maintenance?
