freshwater dip for saltwater fish.ick

I believe 30 days...what are you treating the ick with in the quarentine/hospital tank?

I haven't read up on the fw dip....I have read up on hyposalinity. Drop the SG to 1.009 gradually over a 72 hour period and leave it like that for 4-6 weeks. Let me know how the copper works out for you.
I agree on not treating on the main tank with LR I hear the copper leaches into the LR and stays there for a long time. Not a good idea if your ever going to have corals in the tank.

yes it can work BUT it can also kill your fish as well the best way to treat parasites as such is QT in a hospital tank where you can treat with copper and let the cysts die off in the main tank and have no inverts in this QT tank for treatment. I will provide you with some useful ich treatment links when I find them as my fellow hobbyist have a good write up on successful methods that you can use as well.

The hyposalinity will work itself. Put them in QT for 6 weeks, and remember that the ich is not only in the fish, its in the crushed coral in your main tank too so dont add new fish to that tank for the next 6 weeks as well.

I also wouldnt recomend copper and hyposalinity. The hyposalinity itself is all you need.

Thanks for the advice. It sucks looking at a tank with no fish in it. If I do constant water changes in main tank will it reduce the number of ick eggs or will it not make a difference? I hope my fish can stay alive in the quarantine I have set up for them.:(

It does suck looking at an empty tank, you should do 25% water changes once a week. More water changes will not help though. Ich is a paracite so it needs a host to live, thats why the fish are out.

That being said, there should be no chrushed coral or live rock in the QT. Bare bottem with maybe some PVC pipes for some cover for them. Slowly drop the SG to 1.009 over a few days, like said before in the post too fast will shock the fish.

Using this method I dont think it is needed to use freshwater dips.

All you need on the QT would be a heater, and filter.

just remember hyposalinity is risky to your fish depending on species most are okay but you have to watch with more sensitive fish
