Has anyone ever heard of lionfish? Are they legal in the US? Any info on tank sizes or if they are even available?

Also, it says I cannot post to Ancient fish or cichlids pages bc I don't have enough criteria? I have Ancient fish and cichlids and cannot post comments or questions for whatever reason, anyone know why?

Toadfish believe there are 2 species and 1 of them require Brackish water.

The Toadfish aka Freshwater Lionfish was common in the 80's for sale. Also the dorsal spines are venomous but not lethal to humans. They are vocal personally never heard one but read that the call is a bark like croaking sound.

The Toadfish that always came in were no larger than 6-7 inches and were not that active. You probably can keep one in a 40 gallon breeder aquarium.

They are awesome fish if you dont mind the fact that they are a bit stationary being an ambush predator. The one I had was actually adapted to full saltwater so I kept him that way myself.

I agree with this, after the initial impression of their looks is gotten used to, their tendency to do nothing 99% of the time, is an acquired taste. And although some adapt well to fresh water, they seem to do better health wise in brackish.
They remind me a bit of the Eleotris I keep at the moment (except without the frilly Camo). The Eleotris can stay motionless, half buried in the substrate for days, even weeks, and then only appear for a few moments when being fed. I have at times gone a month without seeing it move.
