Anyone know if its possible to catch these wild or are they protected?

I don’t know about catching, I don’t think they are protected either. I’ve seen them a few times at some of the fish stores near me.

Had a member from the eels origin who described catching these eels. I’m sure the locals would catch and eat them.

Bucket with a battery powered aerator. Even a styrofoam box with a battery powered aerator will work. Keep covered.

yes, in Indonesia my country, they are wild-caught in the rivers several KMs from the estuaries. They are not protected by law. I usually bought them not from stores but direct from the procurers who fished them out of the rivers.

Oh cool. Im in sri lanka but should be the same here right?

every country has different rules, but I never heard of Gymnothorax Polyuranodon being listed as an endangered species.

https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Gymnothorax-polyuranodon.html

IUCN listed this species as Green, so it's least vulnerable to extinction :)

This is Ulo, my Gymnothorax Polyuranodon. Isn't he a cutie <3

He loves bloodworms. My procurer caught him from a river in South Java. I put him in 1.002sg water. He eat bloodworm right away, just a few days after capture.
