Freshwater Paddlefish

You could keep paddlefish locally in theory my uncles landlord did something that might fit the problem of feeding a filter feeder. Biasically what you would do is build a large square or rectangle pond that is relativly deep, keep in mind you would have to do this somwhat close to a moving stream. after you've built the pond itself you make a wide deep trench from the stream to your pond, and back out the other side to rejoin the stream. you would have to keep the entrance and exits of your pond grated to prevent the fish escapin the pond. The zooplankton in the stream would flow in to your pond and would sustain one or two paddlefish if supplemented with a slow sinking food. this is just a idea and has it's flaws but it my just work and i've seen it done with out paddle fish in the pond. i'd love to hear any dissagrements or constructive critizim.

thats a very good idea, too bad theres no streams near by, but theres a creek, but i dont think i could connect it, but damn good idea tho. maybe at the next house

it'd have to be a pretty damn big stream... there's a reason there's no paddelfish in those little streams.. not enough food.. and if there was enough food for the paddle coming in (ALOT of the streams resources) there wouldn't be enough to sustain life downstream, and i for one, would really do that to an ecosystem so i could keep 1 fish alive

Paddle fish can be trained to eat small pellets, no need for zoo plankton. If you insist on zoo plankton daphnia magna would be the way to go, easy to culture and fast growers.

The way I saw it done, he had barely lowered the level of the river flowing on his prperty which is about three foot deep in most places and the water rejoined the stream a short 20 feet later. And like the guy above me said you can cuture your own plankton to help keep the balance, of course doing all this would in fact make you the hardest core Monster Fish Keeper.

I think they are native to the Mississippi river. Did not know they are found all over.
