I just Got home from work to find a 2" freshwater prawn ( the biggest of 3) eating one of my two young Silver arowanas.:eek::( The Arowana's are or were both about 2". There are othere young species in the tank:
2 silver dolaar-size blue discus (obviously not the culpret)
a 4" dinosaur eel (probably not it)
a 2" African Black Knife (seems pretty unlikely...?)
a 4" Transparent Knife ( also pretty skittish)
2 blue snails (highly unlikely)
and 3 prawns 2 1" and the main suspect... a 2"

did my Arowana meet his doom at the claws of an invertbrae?

Looking for a little closure...

Help me put the peices together so I dont make the same mistake twice...

When I got home the 2" prawn had the aro in his mouth and was half consumed....
the tip of the arrow's jaw was also missing.. I took what was left an inspected it thoroughly.. no other scratches or marks

dont put arowanas with tankmates unless 5-6"+ b/c its still fragile

Possibly the prawn could just be cashing in on an opportunity. As Hao stated, best to keep baby aros without tankmates. There is a chance the aro could have been killed by the other aro.

I think this is a really rare case because a strength of a 2" aro is more then enuf to break free away from prawns unless its a crayfish.

The prawn must be on steriods...
