Freshwater Puffer/Puffers for Marine 'Look' 90g tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its going to be hard to say. Each puffer really does have their own personality of what they will and wont put up with. My fahaka for instance will ignore my upside down catfish all day long. Just pretends hes not there, which is a good idea considering its double his size right now. However, if he gets bored, he likes to play a little game where he will sneak up on my cat and try to bit his tail. No damage has been done yet, but I am prepared for the fact that my cat will eventually have to come out. Your abei may let your synodontis live a peacful life, he may constantly nip the heck out of him. You wont know until they are both settled in. Just be prepared to move the cat or the puffer to its own place if need be.

No clue on that one sorry. Check with liveaquaria and aquabid and see if they can ship to you. Doubtful though. I had a hard enough time finding my abei and my fahaka here in the states.

You may just have to ask around your local LFS' and see if any one can get you one in... i know they aren't the easiest of puffers to locate, but i'm sure if there are any good dealers around you, you might get lucky and some one can import one for you?

I also agree that puffers definitely have their own personalities... as with Ride, my fahaka doesn't really bother her tank mates unless they get right up infront of her, at which point she may decide to chase them away... so far no real damage done to any of her tankmates after almost 2 years... but you just never know...

have you looked at tropical fishfinder? wildwoods get some odd ball and hard to find fish in only see mbu and fahacas or dwarf generally

It seems in the uk if you can't get the fish from a lsf and order/ import in they seem to pull your pants down over the price. Good luck I'm trying to find p bass mono's with no luck

It seems probably not going to be able to source an abei.

GSP's actually look interesting. What size do they get too? How much salt for a 90g?

What else can live with them that's colourful/interesting?

What about F8's?

GSP's will eventually need pretty much full marine conditions as they grow up... so F8's would not work, as they are very very low end brackish, so low its almost fresh...

As for size... a full grown GSP can get to roughly the size of a nerf ball... but also be warned, GSP's are known to be notoriously nippy... so tank mates aren't always recommended...
