Thanks was a great read.....what im planning on doing is a little different, I'm going to make it sort of a "show" tank with substrate and plants (havent decided on what yet....depends on what I can get locally), and some shrimp, snails and small fish....maybe some cory cats and tetras. And then Ill have the water cycle through both the 40 and 10 as well as having mechanical filters going on both tanks.....so it will be uber filtered since koi like to crap sooo much.
To make this work I know I need a pump of some sort, an overflow box, and a power head?? maybe.......anything else you guys might suggest
Thought I would throw my 10 cents worth in here. I put a 10g inside of my 220g, for several purposes; it is the intake diffuser for my sump, water flows over the top through a homemade grill down through gravel into an UG filter then up the lift tubes into the siphon. It is my baby tank. And lastly, slowly turning it into a refrugium by adding plants and mosses. Sorry, pix won't help as I have the plumbing hidden behind slate/moss. The whole thing including sump is a bit complicated but works fantastic.
