The "table salt is harmful" is a myth. The amount of iodine concentration in the salt is not of any concern at all. I have used this myself without any problems. "Aquarium salt" is just salt in a fancy package. Why spend a few extra bucks if you can have table salt?

my local wallymart stopped selling it

but

my local petsmart now sells big cartons of fw salt
i get 4 lbs for 5 bucks

table salt and water softener salt just doesnt sound right to me
and for my peace of mind,and my fishes,im sticking with 4lbs of fw salt for 5 bucks

I've used table salt. No ill effects. Table salt and Aquarium Salt are both just Sodium Chloride.

as long as you're using Sodium Chloride, its fine. doesn't matter the label, or price.

The iodized versus non-iodized salt debate is still hotly contested. I would say, based on research, that in most circumstances, table salt is completely harmless for use in aquaria. The hang up comes with fish that are extremely sensitive to iodine levels. Some trout species, for instance, are highly sensitive to very small amounts of iodine. However, due to the fact that most of us will never keep trout in our aquariums, this means little to us.

This is extremely boring material, but it does indicate the sensitivity of some species of fish to elevated iodine levels.

I've always used non-iodized table salt without issue, even when I always salted my tanks with every water change. Now I only salt my tanks when treating them, but still use table salt. In my experience, plain table salt is fine.

Well which is it? Most of us consider "plain table salt" to be iodized salt and non-iodized is commonly found in stores as "Kosher" salt or rock salt.

sounds confusing to me. i think iodine with puffers might be bad since they are scaleless and delicate soo..... ill just buy the big bag at lowes and call it a day...
