Remember that the bala, red tail rainbow and black shark tend to be on the aggressive side. The bala I think is the only one that likes to be in a group and they are jumpers.
So cyprinids then. Bala, rainbow, and redtail are the ones I can think of. I've kept a rainbow before and IME he/she was very friendly and active as well as a decent algae eater but NEVER keep them with slower catfish, sucked slime coat of my striped raph and by the time I figured it out he was nearly dead! Luckily I quarantined the shark quick enough and my raph made a rapid recovery.
Shipmonkey and Chicxulub answered your question. There are countless various minnow, loach and catfish species that can be called sharks. Redtail and rainbow sharks stay smaller, rarely hit 7" mark. Otherwise most shark minnows/catfish gets too big for most aquariums.
