Freshwater "Shark"-type Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i bet. my fish eat a lot and i have 2 baby sunfish, a baby yellow bullhead, and a 5.5 inch koi. im going to give away my koi soon, get him into a pond for him to grow larger.

I love having "sharks" in my tank. I have a Black Shark which has gotten to about 5-6.5 inches

I havent had much luck with Red tail or Bala.

I had a gold shark though that reached about 8 inches but died when i moved

You got the pseudo freshwater sharks pretty much covered. Your idea about educating customers with the full potential size of the fish is great too. The only fish I have experience with on your list are Balas, they're nice in large schools... if only they weren't so skittish.

True up to a point about the balas. The thing is balas and dollars, are very skittish but the problem is they are kept in small tanks. They are much more chilled out when they feel they have 8 feet to dash. They really aren't that bad in huge tanks to be honest. They start off ok in small tanks but will become very skittish very quickly. If I keep them again I'd have them in an 8 footer, not a 4 footer

Hi,
Here a picture of my bala shark and my red tail shark both are 6 years old. bala sharks grow very big, but is very friendly. My bala shark likes to be with more of it own kind. Swims in the middle level of my tank. Eats flakes mostly. I need to sale mine it is too large for my tank. The red tail only grows to be about 5-6 inches but it is very agressive, and it likes it own space. My red tail mostly swims near the bottom of the tank. And likes to hide.
