I know I am going to offend somebody with this.

But I don't care :D

Saltwater rays have a huge lack of personality when compared to their freshwater counterparts.

I have never owned a sw ray, but from what I have seen I am not impressed.
The saltwater ones seem to be like every other saltwater fish.

no experience with them would leave that to be a real pathetic comment... ive been around plenty of peoples salt rays who are just as active and playful as fresh rays...

salt tanks are better used for reefs. saltwater tanks are expensive to set up, and is a big investment for a sting ray habitat, especially since rays cant be housed with some of the more popular FO fish.

saltwater and fresh fish as similar, in the way some have personalities some dont. to say a whole group of fish has no personality is just not true and betrays you inexpierence with them. in fact puffers and triggers are some of the most personible fish i have ever owned. my local fish store used to have a trigger that would turn upside down to beg for food. and many puffers will spit at you from the tank.

I think the biggest draw back on the salt rays is the water change cost. Salt adds up fast especially in a larger tank. I started backing away from the idea of a new saltwater ray tank after I realized how much my 90 reef costs me. I think the fw would be cheaper in that respect and every bit as good. I think just a straight line in the middle it would be preference. I would lean towards fw because of upkeep costs.

blue spotted rays are prity cool looking...
but all the other fish i love and that would want to keep my rays with are also freashwater... (aros etc)

plus i do like the rareness factor... here in australia blue spotted rays can be found prity easily, if u know where to look.

how frequent do you do a waterchange in a single specimen salt tank per year?

And how much money will you be spending on buying a FW ray?

These are the comparable factors, excluding rarity

But well I guess in the long run FW rays are cheaper :irked:

WHOOOAAH! then put hundreds of them.... it will be like an underwater aviary thats for sure:drool:

salt water rays need alot more space compared to the freshwater ones
