Hey clockwork yes its a tower. With two holes in the bottom. I sent you a pm with my number, text or call. I am intrested in this "herbie".

Hey brother! We will make a trip up soon, this has been a rough month on me for getting up north. The herbie will not work for this application because of the tower being set above the sump (I would highly recommend one to anyone else though, clockworks is DEAD SILENT and I love it). A couple of immediate suggestions, get some hose clamps on those elbows. Any soft line plumbing you need even if it is not under preasure needs to be tightly clamped. Secondly in the drawer, pack a bunch of filter floss in that chamber and it will help reduce the noise. That is where the bulk of the overflow "waterfall" noise is coming from. Also add some soft lin to the elbows pointing down into that chamber, the farther water falls, the louder it is. If you can get it an inch over the tray your in good shape and the filter floss (mechanical media) will help reduce the noise further.

I am going to drop you a PM with my number right now, gice me a call. I got a new phone and literally lost all my contacts :(

Yeah the "drawer" is definitely for a filter pad (or whatever mechanical filtration you want to use). Just check it every once in a while and rinse when necessary. On my sump the spots where the water drops directly on the pad gets really dirty, but the rest of the pad only gets some build up. I rinse out/replace my filter pad about every other water change, maybe every three - just depends. As for adding coral (or anything else) below the bioballs, it shouldn't be a problem. I put some ceramic rings in bags and placed them in that area just to add to the biological filtration and it has worked great.

Sounds like you have some friends that can help with most of your questions, but just thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

Alright thanks a lot guys. I am now going through text messages and phone calls with jk47 to get this system crackin. Will post pictures or a video when I'm finished. Thanks for all the help everyone. I have most of the info I need and will let jk putty in any holes in my info. Again thanks.

That's a nice sump. I like the design. So nice score!
:D

X2 what return pump is that?

quiet one grundfos up15-42f. That's the type of pump it is. It says 1/25 hp. But I can't find a gph rateing. It seems to flow a lot of water though.

hey, i have the same issue with my overflow, it's way too narrow for durso pipes and what not, there are other designs that utilize a single pipe design but so far me just putting extra pieces of of foam i had laying around and it really made it quieter. just make sure to monitor the over flow from time to time to make sure it's not flooding. my tank is 30 inches tall so the water will exert a tremendous force of pressure if it ever gets that high so im not too worried as the water level has only gone about 1 inch over the bulkhead with foam in the way.

The stockman might work. It's a modified durso to fit into tight spaces.

what about changing out the plastic hose coming from the bulkeads in the bottom to a valve so you can turn the flow down to match the pump? putting media in the overflow seems a bit dangerous as it could clog espescially cause its not a very large area so it may clog quickly. if you could get it so the water from the overflow is only falling a couple inches the noise would very much decreased.:)

My sump is a glass tank about 40 gallons or so, I am going to be reworking it in a bit, take a look online at the sumps you can buy already pre built for ideas.
