hell no make that b!tch pay!!

So I drop into my LFS on the way home from work to get some little “friends” (feeders) for my little buddy (Mr Snakehead) and as I am opening the door my mrs is all crying etc, I was like what’s wrong blah blah blah, she took me by my hand and led me into my living room where one of my prized possession live. The light is off which was weird due to the fact that it’s on a timer and recently been replaced, so I flick the switch and there belly up I see my snakehead bobbing up and down with the current on my filters..

I get my scooping net and poke at it, NOTHING, it just bobed more… I look at my Mrs who was near the door and asked “what happened” in a tad more aggressive way of cause. She just started to cry again. Blubbering and muttering, all I could pick out was “friends name” kids, gummy worms… I looked at her and then looked back into the aquarium. Sure enough there were gummy worms on the freaking bottom of the 6x3x2 tank.. I poked my fish one more time to see but still nothing…

I called up the lady who owned those kids and asked why my fish was dead, she offered to purchase me a new one. I don’t think she knew what she was offering when she said that, She was not willing to pay $3000 for a fish. I don’t know what else to say. WHAT A GREAT ****** DAY! STUPID ******* KIDS.
:swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear:

and yeah, I'm not happy!
i now how you fell they should be made to buy you new one

It's not just the kids who put things into the tank or tapping on it. Most visitors to our house think it's OKAY to tap on the glass, freaking the fish out or leaving nice grease marks on the glass. :swear: Over a month ago, we had several teenagers over to our place. To my horror, I had one kid who was running back and forth in front of our 210g, taking laugh at the four arowans that were going nuts :swear: :swear:

Perhaps we could make a tank sticker that has "DO NOT TOUCH" sign... in addition to the decals that many of you have.

OK, let's think about it this way:

What if instead of a fish, it was a rare breed of dog. What if the kids killed the dog, on accident, but still killed it. The mother agreed to pay for a new dog, then backs out when she finds out how rare and expensive the dog is. You can sue her! All you need to win is proof that she said she would compensate you. Your own wife can be a witness to that.

I don't know how the laws work in AU, but in the USA a fish, like a dog, is your property and what her kids did was destroy your property. A nine year old is old enough to know wrong from right. Friend of your wife or not, you are letting these people get away with murder. They do owe you compenstion for the SH. If they smashed your TV their mom would pay, this is not any different!

If it was my tank you bet I'd get paid for that fish. If it meant one less freind then so be it. This hobby isn't cheap to begin with and I'll be dammed if someone kills my fish or ruins my set-up for any reason and gets away with it!

:iagree:
get what's yours make her pay if she can't afford it employ her kids to do slave labor get your compensation one way or another!

I sympathize.Kids i babysit threw some shampoo in my tank thinking they could "clean" the fish. Everything went belly up. Nothing as exotic as your snakehead but it still sucked.

Children are.....children. Why was this visitor in your tank area un-supervised? I assume your kids were with him and they were aware of the rules. The kid was a visitor who probably didn't have fish at his own home, how would he know that candy could kill your fish.

I sympathize with you losing your fish, and a snakehead at that, but the mother doesn't owe you for the fish. Your wife was responsible for the children in your house. You are called the mother and let her know what happened and I'm sure you let your own wife and kids know how happy you are. Prevention with children means letting them know the rules and doing what you can do prevent temptation.

I disagree.. its is the parents responsibility to watch what their children are doing. If you go to the zoo there are signs everywhere that say "do not feed the animals"... If a kid goes and feeds an animal b/c the parents aren't watching and the animal dies.. is it the zoos fault?
